Glory of Lights

A year ago, I committed to release one new movie every week. For one year. 52 movies.

This is #50, with two more to go after this. Then it will be the occasional Friday, not every Friday.

It’s been a wonderful, inspiring and creative joy to work with such outstanding astronaut photographers and world-class musicians. We hope you enjoy the movies, and that they inspire a love for Earth and joy of music.

Today, we go back to the beginning. The very first movie we made. Not our first release in this series, but further back at the genesis. An intriguing concept we called Bach in Space.

Here is organist David von Behren, Assistant Organist and Choirmaster of the Memorial Church at Harvard University. My piano teacher had given me a few leads, and David was the first to say “Hey, there’s a cool idea!” He chose the wonderfully joyous Sinfonia from Bach’s Cantata 29. This is such a shimmering recording of him playing the organ at First Plymouth Church in Lincoln Nebraska, where he works in the summer.

I showed him several Earth movie ideas and then both of us felt the glory of lights aligned so well with this music.
